Shrub 90 cm, pathside, San Andrés.

Uses: boil leaves in water with leaves of other species, bathe for fevers or bathe children for malaise; mash fresh leaves in water with leaves of other species, bathe crying children. Comerford 15, 30 Jun 1994.

Leaf, root: cough, pain, for children, the leaf is boiled and the tea drunk for cough; for adults, the root is boiled for "pain of bones and for infection in the body"

Folk medicinal uses

This is the plant usually meant by the designation "John Charles". It is a favourite cold bush used alone or with others which include Solanum torvum and Gossypium spp. The tea is said to be more pleasant and effective if the leaves are dried. It has been stated that the tea will prevent marasmus in infants. The leaves are olso utilised in bush baths.
